INTRODUCING THE COURSE

For those with an interest in Permaculture and Yoga. Combining the 72 hour Permaculture design course certificate and daily Yoga practice. We shall explore the overlapping aspects of both and attain a more integrated experience. Permaculture begins with effective Observation and leads to the design of a landscape inclusive of human activity and in harmony with Nature. The design course will be partly class led and partly skills based. Yoga also begins with the physical self and the observation of the internal world, building a healthy,mobile, and balanced Body/ Mind and connects us to a deeper experience of Ourselves and therefore the relationship to others. Suitable for beginners and those already practising yoga.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT PERMACULTURE ASPECT OF COURSE………….

The course follows then internationally recognised 72 hour permaculture design course and is certified by the Université Populaire de Permaculture in France. The course will cover the basics of permaculture Design, the ethics, principles and methodologies , it then moves on to examine the different aspects of designed human ecosystems, covering food production, building, energy, water, economic systems and community. There will be a design project based around the Patika site, exploratory walks and practical projects.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOGA ON THIS COURSE……………………….

 The Yoga component is designed to specifically compliment the Permaculture design course and more generally to impart its teachings to our everyday lives in a very down to earth and practical way. Each day we shall consider different aspects of yoga which we shall bring to life in the yoga practice. We shall also use examples of Permaculture design and demonstrate yogic examples of equal but no less powerful practices achieved through yoga, be it how to harness our energy and redirect it through to developing awareness and sharpening our observation skills through silencing the mind.  The Patika project is an experiment for mutual strengthening through shared creativity. We think that everybody’s life is a unique journey and the path that forms this journey is to be realized by each individual. From time to time however, these paths cross those of others and it becomes possible to travel together. The “Patika Project” is an agricultural project located on a block of five thousand square metres in the village of Faralya in Fethiye. Reminding us that there are many options for self-realization in a lifestyle outside the rush that comes with urbanization, by remembering again our forgotten values, by working, producing, touching, smelling, feeling, Patika is an environment that allows us to remember how it is to live. At Patika, to get a little closer to an ecological lifestyle, we strive to try to make our guests feel part of the daily flow of our programmes and seek to provide an environment where, through planning activities together that contribute to our personal development and through facilitating participation in the production process, guests can feel part of nature, reminding us that life is in a constant state of production. We aim for an environment where children, youth and adults can develop themselves and where planning and realising activities is possible.

 A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE COURSE LEADERS………………

Steve Read A degree in the environmental sciences was followed by some years of practical scientific research and to the discovery of Permaculture , a design course in 1991 and then 2 years later the Diploma of applied permaculture design awarded for his work in developing urban permaculture in south-east London . For the last 19 years Steve has been designing and leading courses all over the world , UK , France, Zimbabwe, Benin, Guadeloupe, Roumania, Albania, Turkey, Belgium, Marocco, Spain and Poland. He ran the UK Permaculture Association office and then moved to France where he is a founder member of the French Permaculture network ” Brin de Paille” and founded and directs the Université Populaire de Permaculture, a network of permaculture learning centres in France. He leads courses in both French and English.

 Russian parentage. She studied at the University of London where she obtained a degree in Environmental Science and shortly after its completion in the late 80’s she became

 involved with a fledgling Permaculture group in Brockley, Southeast London, a small but energetic group interested in sustainable living. She also began studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine and qualified as a Shiatsu Massage Pratitioner. It was a busy time for she also became a rock climber and mountaineer and worked for a time as a mountain leader. In the late 90’s she literally stumbled upon Ashtanga Yoga and was gripped immediately. A big process of change began, and it is with this particular style which has been her primary focus over the years and underlying this the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali which offers the most comprehensive guide to the practice of Raja Yoga and informs to some degree her overall approach. Practically speaking she has trained with Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Research Institute in Mysore in Karnataka in India, Roberta Gianotti in London, Goddfrey Devereux, Dharma Mittra in New York and with Bharath Shetty at Yogaindia in Mysore to name but a few, some 700 hours teacher training pratice all told.
